QUIZABLED 2016 – KNOWLEDGE FOR ALL
To celebrate 30 years of Seva-in-Action and realizing its dream of organizing quiz for differently abled children SiA organized Quizabled 2016 sponsored by L&T Infotech. The Special Quiz ‘QUIZABLED 2016 – Knowledge for All’ exclusively for ‘Children with Disabilities ‘with the support of ‘1 step – a CSR initiative of L&T Infotech Bengaluru’& in partnership with the 4 Edge Quizzing Solutions was organized. The event was organized on 13th February 2016 from 8.30 am to 4.00 pm at Reddy Jana Sangha Auditorium, Koramangala, Bengaluru.
It was the first of its kind quiz in the country where differently abled participants (cross disability) were given an opportunity to showcase their knowledge and intellectual skills.Press Meet at Press Club to spread the quiz event through print & electronic media in order to sensitize the public to provide an opportunity for children with disabilities to showcase their knowledge and intellectual skills.
Registration at the venue
The quiz event saw an enthusiastic participation of 150 differently abled children (children with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Hearing Impairment, Intellectual disability & Visual Impairment) from both special and mainstream schools. A total no of 27 special schools with 10 Govt. Schools across Bengaluru participated in the quiz.
The event was inaugurated by Mr. Ashwin Karthik with cerebral palsy working as a software engineer at ANZ Corporation in Bangalore. He was a role model to children and parents participating in the event besides his speech motivated the children with the moral that one must believe in themselves. He conveyed the message to parents of children with disability to support, encourage and give opportunity with support & encouragement to lead an independent and dignified life. Mr. Ashok Kumar, Head Facilities & Admin, L&T InfoTech, Bengaluru enthralled with Mr. Ashwin and he expressed in his address that sponsoring this quiz was a great feeling. Ms. Manjula Nanjundaiah, Director, Seva-in-Action appreciated Mr. Ashwin Karthik for his motivational speech and thanked him for that. She also thanked Mr. Ashok Kumar, Head Facilities & Admin, L&T Infotech, Bengaluru for his initiation & support for the quiz.
The entire Quiz was segregated in two categories. Category A named as “Chandana” was meant for children with Intellectual disability (MR) & Autism while Category B named as “Mallige” was meant for children with Hearing Impairment, Blindness/Low vision and Cerebral Palsy (CP). Total of 75 teams were participated in the quiz and a team comprised of two children with same disability represented from the school (both Spl and Govt.). The quiz was divided into two rounds. Category A team consisted of two participants who had to answer the multiple choice questions (MCQs) with single correct answer on sheet while Category B teams again consisted of two participants who had to answer multiple choice questions which were projected on the screen. Finally, the top 6 teams from both the categories went for final Round.
