Profile of Ruma Banerjee. MA Psychology, Dip CBR University of London. Ruma Banerjee is the Vice Chairperson of Seva-in-Action (estd1985), by profession she is a psychologist and has done her post graduate diploma in Community Based Rehabilitation from the University of London. She has been actively working for the past 35 years in the field of rehabilitation of persons with disabilities and inclusive education, working closely with the state government and central government in developing preservice and in-service teacher education which involved curriculum development and teacher training. She has taken up action research in IE for developing IE policy for Karnataka state. She is the NGO member of Central Advisory Board for disabilities (CABD) Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment GOI to implement right to people with disabilities Act. She is the member of Executive Committee, General Council and Member of RCI. She has been on various committees of the state and central government and review mission of MHRD GOI. She is the consultant and resource person for Inclusive Education, Centre of Excellence and Teacher Education, TISS, Mumbai. At the international level, she was the only non-disabled person from south Asian region selected by Swedish International and developmental agency to undergo training in UNCRPD. She is a consultant for Disability and Developmental Partners, UK, for Inclusive Education in Ethiopia. She has been a consultant to UNESCO. She has also co-authored a book “Understanding inclusive practices in Schools, Examples of schools from India.” She has contributed to articles on Inclusive education is Sage publication. Co-authored books in rehabilitation. She believes in inclusive education as the gate way for inclusive society. |
