Manjula Nanjundaiah

M.Ed. in Spl. Edn., Victoria University of Manchester, England, UK

Manjula Nanjundaiah is the Director of Seva-in-Action (estd 1985) in Bengaluru and by profession she is a Special educationist and has done her Master’s degree in Education (Special Education) from the Victoria University of Manchester in England, UK. She has more than 34 years of experience in the field of education of children & adults with disabilities focusing on Inclusive Education. She has been involved in developing both preservice & in-service teacher education and conducting training programs in Inclusive Education for both State & Central Govt. [under the District Primary Education Program (DPEP), Janashala, Sarva Shikshana Abhiyana(SSA) & now Samagra Shikshana-Karnataka)] & also for the NGOs. She has worked as a principal of the one-year Multi-category Teachers Training Course in Integrated Education of children with disabilities (recognized by the Govt. of Karnataka) for more than 12 years. She has also developed training manuals on IE in regional language (Kannada) for teachers and parents & also translated disability materials from English to Kannada. She is the recipient of Facilitator award from the Aim Insights (The HRD Group) recognized by Mangalore University for conducting HRD training programmes for different groups. She has undertaken action research under the UNESCO’s Research Project on “Meeting Special Needs in Regular Schools” with the NCERT. She has contributed to UNESCO Publication “State of the Education Report for India 2019: Children with Disabilities”. she has worked as an Inclusive Education consultant with NGOs (Berehan Lehetsanat (BL) & Deaf Development & Information Association (DDIA) in Ethiopia, an African country from 2013-2019 (3 years each) on invitation by Disability & Development Partner (DDP), UK. She has co-authored the following books: 1. ‘Inclusive Education for Children with Special Needs (English & Kannada), 2010 & Revd Ed 2017 2. ‘Understanding Inclusive Practices in Schools – Examples of Schools from India’ (English), 2011 2. 'A set of 5 Reading Booklets on Inclusive Education' (English & Kannada), 2016 She has contributed to articles on Inclusive Education for magazines published by the Govt (SSA) & NGOs. She is a SRV (Social Role Valorization) graduate & she has been associating with the Keystone Institute India, New Delhi as a member of the ‘Teaching & Outreach Action Group’ under the ALL-INDIA SOCIAL ROLE VALORIZATION (SRV) NETWORK to bring a change in the lives of the people with intellectual & developmental disabilities. She is one of the State Resource Persons in Inclusive Education & now she is the member of the Executive Committee of Samagra Shikshana-Karnataka.
