Victor is a person with Down’s syndrome, a genetic disorder causing developmental and intellectual delays leading to disability. He was taken Pre-vocation & Skill Development training at Seva-in-Action (SiA) on Retail domain. Seva-in-Action gave intensive training on various activities to help Victor learn to do tasks faster.

He was able to learn to count and sort apparel which is a critical skill required in the retail sector. There has been a transformation in him. Victor’s tantrums have fallen drastically as he is engaged in the stock room to shop floor tasks at his workplace because of the Seva-in-Action’s sensitization of staff helped inclusion at the workplace. Participative management by Leads and Managers of Star Bazaar helped Victor observe and follow the tasks done on the work floor.

He is a shop floor assistant in Star Bazaar. He arranges new apparels by off-loading the stock as well as rearranges apparels discarded by customers. Victor now travels on his own, comes on time, completes all tasks assigned to him and asks for more if he finishes early. Victor is a happy employee, enjoys his time with peers and even entertains them with his dancing skills during social meets. He supported his father’s heart operation (change of pace maker) with the help of his ESI facility of about 6 lakhs rupees. His father expressed his feeling that “I never expected my son will take care of my day-to-day medical expenses and my major heart surgery. We felt that I have take care of his life time. But Seva-in-Action’s skill training made his life dependent into independent and my son saved my life”
